The new GUI (Men’s) Committee met for the first time on Thursday 14th Dec. The purpose of the meeting was to form the various sub-committees to enable them make the necessary preparations to enable them be fully productive from the start of 2012.
A presentation was made by the 2011 handicap committee at which they outlined the results of their deliberations on the annual review. It was stated that all data is now on the computer system and that a number (6) of reports are used to highlight candidates for review, in line with CONGU rules. This review can result in one of 3 outcomes. Namely, no change, handicap increase or handicap reduction. The intention is to ensure that handicaps reflect the playing abilities of the relevant individuals. I am happy to report that while there were some handicap increases, a number of members played well enough to achieve handicap reductions. The committee congratulated them on their performance and wished them similar success for 2012. Each player whose handicap will change will be written to in the coming days to inform them of the decision. The new handicaps will come into effect from 29th Dec.
The GUI Committee commended the handicap committee for the thorough way they undertook their duties and then ratified the decisions made.
The membership of the various committees was then decided. Some positions have still to be finalised. All the details will be available in the about us section of the web site. Please check it as it will be updated with the latest information.
A discussion took place on the merits of having prize giving ceremonies once a month. This matter will be addressed at the next meeting.
It was decided to refer the proposal to extend competition times, to facilitate more members playing, to the competition sub committee.
It was decided that there would be golf over the Christmas period and that it would take the form of a sweep. Further details will be available in the near future.
GUI committee meetings will take place on the 2nd Thursday of every month at 7pm. The target duration for the meeting is 1 hr. All reports will be submitted in advance to facilitate the achievement of this target.
It was decided that there would be a full review of the recent AGM and the various issues raised at the next meeting.
Please feel free to raise any issues you may have with any of the committee members. Positive input is always welcome.
