CONGU CHANGES TO HANDICAPS ILGU

AS YOU ARE PROBABLY AWARE BY NOW CONGU HAVE INTRODUCED CHANGES TO THE HANDICAPS IN PREPARATION FOR THE NEW WORLDWIDE HANDICAP SYSTEM WHICH COMES INTO EFFECT IN 2020.

THE HANDICAP LIMIT OF 28 FOR MEN AND 36 FOR WOMEN HAS BEEN REMOVED AND REPLACED WITH A NEW MAXIMUM HANDICAP OF 54 AND NEW CATEGORY 5 & 6 FOR MEN, AND CATEGORY 6 FOR WOMEN.   THESE NEW CATEGORIES WILL INCORPORATE GOLFERS WITH DISABILTIES, JUNIIOR GOLFERS AND BEGINEER GOLFERS.

THE CHANGES ARE INVISAGED AS A STEPPING STONE TO A WORLD HANDICAPPING SYSTEM.      ALL PLAYERS ARE URGED TO HAVE AT LEAST 20 QUALIFYING SCORES ON THEIR RECORD BEFORE 2020 TO ENSURE A SMOOTH TRANSITION OF HANDICAPS.   FURTHER INFORMATION ON THE DETAILS OF THIS NEW “WHS” WILL BE GIVEN CLOSER TO its INTRODUCTION

TO FACILITATE THE IMPLEMENTATION OF THESE CHANGES THE I L G U HAVE PERMITTED HANDICAP COMMITTEES , ON A ONCE OFF BASIS, TO APPLY A “GENERAL PLAY INCREASE” IN LINE WITH CLAUSE 23/.3.(b) TO THE CONGU UHS REGULATIONS.   WE HAVE UP TO APRIL 30TH TO IMPLEMENT THESE CHANGES, AFTER APRIL 30TH CLUBS WILL HAVE TO SUBMIT PLAYERS HANDICAP CHANGES TO ILGU FOR APPROVAL.

AS IN PREVIOUS YEARS THERE IS NO CHANGE TO UPWARD PLAYING ADJUSTMENT OF 1.0 FOR CATEGORIES 2 – 6 IN ONE PLAYING YEAR.  ALL SOFTWARE ON HANDICAP MASTER SYSTEM HAS BEEN ADJUSTED TO ACCOMMODATE THE CHANGES.

THE HANDICAP COMMITTEE HAVE REVISED ALL HANDICAPS THAT ARE ELIGIBLE FOR INCREASES IN LINE WITH STRICT GUIDELINES SET OUT OF THE ILGU.    WE ARE CURRENTLY IN THE PROCESS OF INFORMING ALL PLAYERS ENTITLED TO A HANDICAP INCREASE AND WE HOPE TO HAVE ALL THE CHANGES IMPLEMENTED BY MARCH 25TH.
