Course Open

Molly Dowling

Just to bring you up to date on how our own Molly is getting on at National & International level.

Molly has had a great June so far. Over the June Bank Holiday weekend, she competed in the St. Rule Trophy. This event is played in St. Andrew's, Scotland over the world famous Old Course and the New Course. It attracts a very high quality international field and Molly certainly was not out of her depth competing amongst them. She finished on 3 over par for 3 rounds of golf which included getting it around the Old Course in 2 under on the final day. Great stuff.

Then last weekend, she had a crack at the Irish Womens Close Championship which was staged at the magnificent Enniscrone Golf Club in County Sligo.

After 36 holes of qualifying on Saturday, Molly made it through to the Matchplay stages which was for the best 32 qualifiers.

In the 1st round on Sunday she faced and beat Julie McCarthy (Forest Little GC & Auburn University, Alabama, USA).

In the last 16 on Monday she was up against the leading qualifier, Valerie Clancy and beat her 2 & 1.

Through to the last 8, she came up against Irish Girls International Sara Byrne (Douglas GC). Molly gave a very good account of herself before going down to a 2 & 1 defeat to Sara who was the overall winner of the tournament.

I am sure I speak for all of us when I say that we are all very proud of Molly who is one of us representing Lucan GC at the highest levels. She is a great ambassador for Ladies Golf and we wish her well for the coming tournaments.
